I’m not Sita – ur not Rama either

I have faced this situation n number of times every where I lived in United states of America whenever there is a talk about India or going to Hindi movies.

I’m going to redirect them to this post to find my answer because I’m tired of telling each of them individually.

There is a wide spread accusation that people from Tamil Nadu (India) don’t speak or hesitate to learn Hindi and they should speak it since its a national language. I can’t talk for the whole tamil speaking people but here is my answer to it

  1. If the need araises then I will learn hindi which I don’t see happening in near future.
  2. I’m too lazy to learn and Hindi would be the last thing I would even consider learning.
  3. I tried learning once hindi as a kid and failed miserably hence I’m staying away from it.
  4. I don’t have to prove my nationality by learning Hindi.
  5. I’m happy watching Hindi movies using sub titles.

No offense guys we can always communicate in english which I beleive every one of my friend knows.

  1. I’m glad that you accepted being lazy.

  2. English or tamil may help you to reach most of your friends and relatives. Still knowing national language does not harm you. You might realize the use of hindi if you goto north india.
    Dont say u wont

  3. Kum,
Certainly if I had to live in a place where hindi is the preferred mode of communication I would try to learn it that’s my first point. Moreover I’m not against people learning hindi but mad @ people who expect me to know hindi when I don’t have a need for it.

  4. 1. If you have a small dog and a large dog, do you build a small door for small dog and large door for large dog? The answer is NO!
Build a large door and ask both the dogs to use the same.
As non-Hindi speaking Indians, we use the large door by learning English. Let the Hindi speaking population learn English to communicate with us and the world.
    2. If the number of people speaking Hindi is used as a reason for selecting the national language, why the same statistics is not applied for national bird and animal. We definitely have more Rats than Tigers and more Crows than Peacocks
