What happens to the Doctorates?

Well the news is out the Govt. of India is derecognizing 44 so called deemed universities in India due to lack of infrastructure facilities. Finally some one in the Education department recognized it and blew the whistle.

Although I didn’t study in any of these universities but I have visited some of them during my UG time and they weren’t gr8 even then so I’m gonna assume world didn’t become flat in last 5 years.

An example for the so called deemed university standard is when some universities awarded doctorates to some south indian actors just like a freebie (Google it).

So will these actors return the so call doctorates since these universities are no more universities?

I hope at least from now on people think twice before accepting any kind of doctorates just for the fun of it. I’m sure actors work hard as well but Please don’t mix academics and acting it doesn’t go well keep them separate.

Oscar looks good with A.R.Rahman than with Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam. Doesn’t it?

Irony series

Well I have always wanted a irony series with news that I have read or instances of my blog posts or anything  that contradicts each other and finally I’m starting it today.

I just want to point out the ironies nothing more than that and probably what I consider as Irony might not be the same for everyone.

Here are 2 slide shows from The Hindu(Chennai edition) online news paper

  1. Showing the newly beautified Marina beach done by the TN govt dated Dec 22 2009.
  2. Other one showing an Oil slick off Chennai dumped illegally by some ship off the coast dated Jan 6 2009.

Where is bi.ng and Ap.pl?

Just read the news that the mighty Google has released its own URL shortener tool http://goo.gl which is available with Google Toolbar and  FeedBurner according to press release.I’m sure the tool will slowly be used by all Google products and may be ship with Android and Chrome OS which would be cool.

Pretty much every IT companies have started their own URL shortener web apps. The next question is when Microsoft(http://bi.ng/) and Apple(http://ap.pl) are going to release their URL shortener tools?

The Ripple Effect

With the United Progressive Alliance – UPA lead by Congress(I) winning the 2009 Indian parlimentary election with a surprise and its ripple effects has started showing up.

Obviously the first place to feel the effect is the closest to the center that’s Srilanka where BBC has reported that Velupillai Prabhakaran leader of LTTE has been killed. Although it could be rumor as usual but pretty much LTTE will be taken of the equation from now on in Srilanka.

But good news LTTE regrets the loss of innocents life ,not able to protect them any more and willing to silence their guns (nice term indeed).

There above statement is like the saying in tamil

kann ketta pin sooriya namash kaaram

which means Praying to the Sun god after losing the eye.

All mayhem over the weekend..

Update – 05/24/2009:

LTTE has finally accepted that Prabhakaran is dead. Hopefully with the end there will be a better solution in srilanka.

India Election result maps(2009) using ESRI Arcgis Flex API

As usual I was lookig for a site that would show the Indian goverment election 2009 and I found out that electio commision has a site set up with the maps and stats online.

Here is the web site http://www.eciresults.nic.in/

The intersting part is they have a amazing interative map online using ESRI Arcgis Flex API and Arcgis server.

BTW ESRI is a company that I work for and now I can tell my friends when my friends ask about the place I work.

Google News in Tamil..

Not sure how long Google News had tamil news feed from Aug 6 2008 but I just found about it today. Now I will be able read all crappy, funny and gossips from tamil news papers as well.

With every political party preparing for elections its going to be fun. Since none of the parties can give a definitive solution for high inflation in India TN politicians have smartly used the Srilankan Tamil cause as a scape goat to divert people from inflation.

Yethanai kaalamthan yematruvar indhe naattile” (for how long will these people cheat in this country).

Irony

Here is an article that I was reading today which basically says that Indian chefs are welcome in UK but not IT workers.

Soon after that I was wondering if Veera Pandiya Kattabomman welcomed any of them to his kingdom. Time changes lot..:)

When will Indian politicians be like this

I’m wondering how long it will take for Indian politicians to keep aside politics and come together like in US for a day.

We Indians follow the west a lot , boast about every successful NRI living in the west and compare everything with US.

If it has already with out my knowledge plz let me know.

No Smoking..

My dear Smoker’s,

If you haven’t heard the news that you can’t legally smoke inside your office/restrooms in India any more. The law will be effective Oct 2 2008 and its a good initiative by the government.

Passing law is an easier task but implementing it properly is always been a problem since Independence. For e.g the reservation law that was supposed to be effective only for 10 years, traffic laws who cares you are cursed if you respect them, bribery is illegal in India ….etc.

Rather than having a law that makes it illegal to smoke inside office they could have charged the smokers in order to use the smoke room. It would avoid some cheap people from borrowing cigarette’s every time from the smokers as well :) .

Fake Currencies

One more way a citizen can be mugged. Check this article.

Isn’t it the responsibility of the bank to check the validity of currency before circulating it?  Shouldn’t they compensate for the money the account holder has lost?

I’m not a lawyer so I will have to assume the reporter has done is job good but who knows TimesofIndia is known for publishing baseless stories.
